Our story
About SteadyRise
— the why, who, and how
Why SteadyRise Exists
We heard clients share how difficult it can be to find a therapist — long waitlists, unanswered calls, and experiences that didn't feel like the right fit. We listened, and we knew people deserved better support.
We also saw many therapists feeling overworked, under-supported, and disconnected from the work they care deeply about.
We believe that when therapists are supported well, clients receive better care.
SteadyRise was created to be a practice grounded in compassion, collaboration, authenticity, and human connection — for both clients and clinicians alike.
I started my counseling career wanting to help people. Dubbed a good listener from high school, I knew helping others was my calling.
I earned my B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and was then accepted into a School Psychology program where I obtained my M.A. in Psychology (General Theoretical) from Marywood University. While on a retreat, I reached the realization that I wanted to be there for those who were suffering in a much more direct way than how I felt I could as a school psychologist. I made the shift to a counseling program instead where I completed counseling coursework, a practicum, and internship at 3 different sites.
I began my career in 2016 in the field of outpatient drug and alcohol counseling. I changed employment in the summer of 2017 and continued in the field until January 2020, obtaining my counseling license (LPC) during that time.
In 2019, I started working at a group private practice and by 2021 had established my own solo practice, Mister Ross Counseling. I was often called Mister Ross and with Mister Rogers as one of my heroes, the name of my practice served as an homage to an educator who valued kindness and gentleness in both his work and his interactions with others. Through my solo practice, I have helped clients through anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, grief, and life transitions.
To better help my clients, I became a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner and began to see how a somatic intervention using a simple pointer was making my clinical work not only easier, but in some cases, more effective than talk therapy alone.
Meanwhile, I published my first book, Becoming Mister Ross: A Story of Growth, Connection, and Healing in 2024. I aimed to share how a real life therapist speaks openly about his past. I found that by others reading my book, they were better able to understand their past too.
Along the way, I taught a graduate level counseling course at my alma mater, Marywood University, supervised, and consulted.
In 2025, I renamed my solo practice to CreatingYou Counseling to put less focus of my practice on me and more on a sense of meaning. Additionally, I was accepted into the Lackawanna County TechCelerator program as part of their 4th Cohort with the intention of starting a new group practice. I founded SteadyRise Counseling on January 20, 2026.
Over the years, I've noticed a shift not only in how I help people professionally but also what I needed personally. While at times I struggled with my own mental health, I was often able to use what I learned to help others with their struggles. I had also carried resentments toward previous workplaces. I loved my clients, but found it difficult with some of my previous employers. My need for a better mental health setting professionally and personally grew. Out of this need came a passionate search to find a solution — SteadyRise Counseling — a place where clients can find the mental health they need and therapists could thrive.
I am excited to be extending my role beyond a counselor to a founder, entrepreneur, and manager, building a practice where clients can find the mental health care they need and therapists can thrive.
Outside of clinical work, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and our 3 cats, my family, and my friends. I also enjoy reading, thrifting, writing, playing video games and board games, watching the Denver Broncos, and running.

Ross's Personal Mission
My mission is to help offer others hope, freedom, and joy. I seek to help others in ways that have helped me and offer alternatives to the barriers in our lives. Furthermore, I want people to know deeply who they are and that they can do hard things to get to where they want to be.
As the founder of SteadyRise Counseling, my goal is to create a greater community in which clients and our clinicians can feel valued, supported, and free to be themselves. My hope is that we can make some positive impact on the world and change the field of counseling for the better, whether that might be allowing for therapy to shine in NEPA or on a greater scale, revolutionizing and adapting the field to the needs and challenges of today and tomorrow.
Meet Our Team
Our growing team of trusted clinicians, each bringing their own warmth, experience, and approach to the work of healing.
Often it is a difficult decision when we decide to give counseling a try. Most people do not like asking for help (me included). I hope that you will consider giving counseling a try. I will strive to make your experience more like a partnership or collaboration, as opposed to you coming to someone "asking for help."
I will try to create a safe space and offer you unconditional support throughout your journey in achieving your self-identified goals. I am a trauma attuned therapist who uses evidence-based individualized approaches based upon the unique experiences and challenges that you are facing.
It is my hope that you find this to be a rewarding, fulfilling, and most importantly, a helpful experience! I am very much looking forward to collaborating and partnering with you!

- A book I love
- Classic literature like Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. This book represents the literal and metaphoric prisons we can create for ourselves. Many of us who struggle with mental wellness experience the shackles that encumber our experience — yet through self-exploration, hard work, and perseverance we can journey from aloneness to oneness with our past and who we are.
- What clients can expect
- I bring calming and compassionate energy to our sessions.
- Why I do this work
- I struggled through much of my life. I am one of the lucky ones, because I have been able to transform adversity and hardship into living a rich and fulfilling life. I chose this profession because if I can support just one person so they do not struggle as I once did, then I have achieved purpose and value in the universe.
Change is a part of life. Through a safe, nonjudgmental, and positive environment, I can help empower and motivate you to be the best version of yourself. My personal aim is to set you up with personalized coping skills and the ability to foster a growth mindset.
You can expect someone who is dedicated to helping you through your self-growth journey.

Asking for help and making changes in your life is something you don't have to do alone. My goal is to foster genuine connection in a nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered. I understand that reaching out for help takes courage. I strive to honor that courage by offering an open, affirming space where you can show up exactly as you are.
I focus on building a trusting, supportive relationship as the foundation of our work together. I look at things through a holistic lens and how trauma can be stored in the body, releasing these tensions through movement and guided meditations. I also pay attention to how relationships, trauma, culture, life experience, and social systems may have influenced your experiences and beliefs.
We'll work together to see how the things you've experienced might be showing up in your life now, where you are storing tension in your body, how to release built up tension, and figure out goals that really feel right for you. I'm here to help you heal from the past, but also to step into your power, rewrite your story, and make choices that feel true to the life you actually want to live.

- Somatic Healing
- A style of therapy that I thoroughly enjoy for both myself and to help others is somatic therapy. I mainly focus on trauma informed yoga practice which is a gentle, adaptable practice designed to help people with post-traumatic stress or chronic overwhelm feel safe, regain control, and reconnect with their bodies. Along with sound bowl therapy which uses resonant vibrations and rich acoustic overtones from metal bowls to induce deep relaxation. It aims to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and shift brainwave states.
- Outside the Office
- Yoga, meditation, hiking, reading, baking, traveling, camping, painting, arts and crafts, spending time with loved ones, and taking my dog for walks.
- Why I do this work
- Throughout my life I have tried many forms of therapy. The one that stuck out to me the most was the one where I connected to my therapist, felt safe and heard. She opened the door for me to explore alternative ways to heal such as yoga therapy and sound bowl healing. This has impacted my life in such a positive way, I want to give this gift I experienced to others who are struggling or feel that traditional talk therapy isn't for them.
Who We Are
SteadyRise Counseling provides compassionate, ethical, evidence-based and research-informed therapy that supports individuals and couples in their growth, connection, and healing. We are a trauma-attuned and inclusive practice grounded in the belief that suffering is not forever and that hope and change are always possible. Through authentic connection, collaboration, and courage, we help people take the next best step toward the lives they want to create.
Our integrative approach honors the brain-body connection and recognizes the influence of environment, culture, and identity in the healing process. We are proud to serve people of all races, ethnicities, abilities, body sizes, faiths, and socioeconomic backgrounds — affirming each person's inherent worth and right to be seen, respected, and supported exactly as they are.
Evidence- and research-based
Our care is grounded in current clinical research.
Every modality we draw from — from trauma-focused approaches to relational and somatic work — is informed by evidence and adapted to the person in the room. We pair rigor with warmth so the work is both effective and deeply human.
Our 6 Pillars of Care
Through these pillars, we foster a collaborative, ethical, and compassionate environment that values clinical growth, vulnerability, and authenticity.
Authenticity
We must be honest with ourselves, with both our problems and our strengths. If we can't be honest with ourselves, we cannot know how we feel, what we think, and thereby, how to make decisions that align with who we are.
Kindness
We must be kind to ourselves on this journey. Kindness means caring respectfully and sometimes assertively for oneself and others. It is seeing the good in others and ourselves even if we do not want to. Kindness is about treating others how we would like to be treated, and how others want to be treated.
Accountability
We must be accountable for our actions, whether we're in the process of healing or not. We are imperfect beings, and we can easily make up excuses for our shortcomings. Ultimately, our actions are what builds or breaks trust, and brings us closer or further from our goals. Being accountable for ourselves and our moral compass is integrity.
Autonomy
There are actions in every circumstance to better or worsen your situation. Our choices contribute to our situations and whether or not we experience growth.
Hope
There may be struggles today but there is still tomorrow. There is still love in the world. People who are struggling succeed in small and big ways everyday. Hope is rooted in the belief that there is even greater out there for us.
Connection
No one succeeds alone. We are social beings, hard-wired to love and be loved. We are designed to share our laughter, our celebration, and our tears. We are meant to build together, as a community. We offer others opportunities for connection, and allow ourselves to be connected even when we've been hurt or are learning to trust again.
We are committed to being more than an office or a digital workspace for counseling sessions. We are a learning community dedicated to healing, connection, and growth — thereby creating an atmosphere where hope resides.
We offer in-person, virtual, and hybrid care across Pennsylvania.
